Ramp and Deck Material Information

Ramp and Deck Material

Description of the Device

This ramp and deck are constructed with composite, PVC plastic lumber. This type of material does not require sanding or finishing.

Use of the Device

Ramps are used for individuals with decreased mobility where stairs provide a challenge and safety risk.  This decking material is low maintenance and highly resistant to decay, cracks or splinters which could all decrease ramp safety. There are also decking materials that feature rougher surfaces for more traction. See manufacture guidelines for specific information.

 Temporary or Permanent

Temporary conditions may require options that can be removed. Temporary ramps made out of other material (aluminum) are available.

Permanent conditions may require remodeling or changing the physical environment. Seek professional guidance from a licensed contractor in determining appropriate fit for your needs.

Cost

Moderate to expensive, wood decking is less expensive to install, but requires more maintenance than composite materials.

Support Needs (caregiver)

Consult with a  professional  for design and installation.

Aesthetics

The ramp and decking materials used will change the aesthetic of your home’s exterior.

Contraindications for Device

Use caution with changes due to snow and ice. Ramps/decks in the shade (and not exposed to the sun) could grow algae.
