Button Hook

 

Device 

Individuals who have trouble with fine movements of their hands and fingers may find buttoning easier with a button hook. See our low tech video for demonstration. Button hooks also come with built up handles if needed to make them easier to grip.

 

 Temporary or Permanent Equipment Considerations

Individuals may decide to utilize a button hook after a medical condition to assist with dressing and to reduce stress on the joints of the hand.

Cost

Button hooks are low cost solutions that increase independence in dressing they range from $6-$10 and can be purchased in combination with zipper pulls for additional help.

Support Needs (caregiver)

Caregiver may be needed for some dressing assistance but these low tech devices can greatly reduce the need for help and increase independence.

A variety of styles and shapes are available.

Contraindications for device use
