Light

Light is an important aspect of health and safety that is often overlooked. As we age we need more light to complete everyday tasks.

  • One simple rule is to always strive for balanced lighting, that is light from many sources instead of one single bright light.
  • To measure light, use a light meter such as this  one to help you measure  the light levels in your own environment.

There is research linking light exposure to sleep disruptions and additional health concerns.

  • It is recommended to use bright full spectrum light in the morning and switching to the warmer lights later at night. See video for examples and more information.

***A dark room can increase risk for fall, motion activated night lights that can automatically light up a room when needed.
